More Hebrews Thoughts

Hebrews is such a great book! I'm thinking of going back through again instead of moving on to James tomorrow. :-)
Heb. 13:8-9
Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever. Do not be carried away by varied and strange teachings; for it is good for the heart to be strengthened by grace, not by foods, through which those who were so occupied were not benefited.
How refreshing it is for me to see the constancy of Christ's truth! In academic circles, like the one I'm about to leave, people are always talking about the newest or most influential theoretical constructs: deconstructionism, postmodernism, postcolonolialism, feminism, and a host of other -isms that are in a constant state of flux. Thanks be to our Lord; His truth never changes, and His plan of salvation is the same today as it has been since before the foundation of the world.

And what a relief it is not to be enslaved to manmade efforts of soul-strengthening! A lot of us are familiar with the old cliche, "You are what you eat," but thankfully, our spiritual growth is determined by what He wants for us, not by what types of clean or unclean foods we put into our bodies. He lowered the sheet to Peter to give him access to unclean foods, and in so doing, gave us all a freedom that was unknown under the Law. Pretty exciting stuff. :-)

OK, sorry that this was pretty incoherent; I'm just kind of overwhelmed by thoughts at the moment. If you want coherent, I'll e-mail you my PowerPoint presentation for the message I'm giving tomorrow at SWTBC at the service which starts at 10:50 a.m. and goes until noon. ;-)
